Removing the checkerboard pattern from a transparent Adobe Stock image

Hi,

I recently downloaded an Adobe stock image of a lens flare (File #118986663)

When I import the image into Photoshop, the grey checkerboard pattern is visible.

I opened the file in Illustrator and saw there are many layers, but I can't figure out how to remove the pattern without affecting the white flare 😞

I'm newbie to both Photoshop and Illustrator. I would really appreciate any help you guys could give me.

Thanks!

The white flare is an effect that relies on interaction with the object(s) below it. To maintain its appearance, put some other color field or art objects under it.

The grey checkerboard pattern in Photoshop is just there to show where areas of transparency are. It is not really there.

Just to confirm that what you are referring to is the transparency grid go to Photoshop's Preferences and in the Transparency & Gamut section set the Grid size to "None". See screen shot:

Hi Bill,

Thank you for you response. I checked the Preferences as you suggested, but it "Grid Size" is already set to None.

If you create a layer beneath the flare and fill that with color does the grid go away? The grid shown in your screen shot certainly looks like the transparency grid.

People often put a checkerboard behind their transparent designs.

You opened it in Photoshop. There's no way to get rid of the checkerboards. You will need to open it in Illustrator and then delete the layer that contains the checkered squares. Let's hope they are on their own layer.
