renaming items in my illustrator library.

I am creating a little assets library in Illustrator to share with my fashion students, but I have encountered a strange problem...

when attempting to rename my files, my keyboard keys do not correspond. I cant type in the drop down box, it just comes out jumbled....

so the text look like this...

once i press enter it corrects itself but i need to know what to tell my students?
