Repeatable ways to crash Illustrator 28 on macOS Sonoma 14

Some of the repeatable ways Illustrator 28.0 crashes on macOS Sonoma 14.1.2:

  • Crash on Keyboard Shortcuts dialog
    • Open Illustrator
    • Go Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts…
    • Grab the scroll bar and try to scroll down
    • Illustrator stalls
  • Crash on Contextual Task Bar
    • Open Illustrator with an empty new document
    • Draw a simple rectangle and select it with a Selection Tool so that the Contextual Task Bar appears
    • Select the More options menu (three dot menu)
    • Select any of the commands from More options menu, all of which will immediately crash and quit Illustrator

Fixes I've tried with no effect:

  • Restart Illustrator
  • Restart macOS
  • Reset preferences
  • Clear Font Cache
  • Uninstall Illustrator with its preferences and reinstall the latest version of Illustrator

Same, but on Ventura. Very unreliable behavior. I'm on Ai 28.1

Yes, grabbing any scroll bars within the application still immediately crashes Illustrator.

Another way to stall Illustrator:

  • Open Illustrator with a new empty document
  • Go to Appearance panel and click on any color swach
  • Click on color swaches, grab a scroll bar or click on the contextual menu icon to completely hang Illustrator within a few seconds

What is happening with this version of Illustrator? Seems to be extremely buggy and fragile.

Today I updated the Illustrator to 28.1.

  • Crashing on Contextual Task Bar seems to be fixed.
  • Still crashing when attempting to use scroll bar on the Keyboard Shortcuts dialog box.
  • Still crashing when selecting fill or stroke colors within a few seconds, both in the Appearance panel as well as in the upper left hand corner.
