Replacing text on an ai image to match style of original text

Hi!

I'm a new CC user and have a lot to learn. I found a great image on Adobe stock, licensed it, and brought it to AI so I could customize it by replacing some of the text.

I went to layers and see each character on the line I wish to replace, but am unable to replace the characters with the same font and color. In other programs, I would simply select the text and type. The new type would replace the old and be in the original style.

    To answer your question, I am sorry, but I don't remember if "vector" was in the description. I did note the .ai was.

    As you may see from my reply to Jane-e, I also found that after deselecting the letters in the layers they were not visible and then I could add text. I am sure this is so elementary to you, Jane-e, and others, but I appreciate everyone's willingness to help!

    If it has been converted to outlines, which is likely, then you use the letters by moving them and copying them into position as if they were old-fashioned type on metal blocks. You probably want a grid and / or guides for positioning.

    If you want fonts, you can download them from Typekit with your Creative Cloud subscription and then format live text.

    I've seen several Adobe Stock images that are vector forms of letters. Was it in the description?

    As a novice, I finally discovered how to activate (?) the letters so that I could see them individually among the layers.

      Are you sure that the file contains editable type objects?

      The type may have been converted to outlines (paths). In that case you would not be able to edit or replace it.
