Retro Postcard Tutorials Not Working - Please Help!

I've followed multiple tutorials to the T, and this specific step has never been achievable for me (see screenshot below). I am unable to create selectable shapes beneath the 3D text I create. It simply does not work for me. Is anybody able to complete these tutorials and duplicate each step in AI 2024 with success? If so, please let me know if you had to deviate from the walkthrough, if there is a step missing? I really need to create some retro postcards lol.

There are 2 ways to create 3D effects, you should probably select the "Classic" one.
