Save files by artboard without it being recognized

Excuse the title, I really wasn't sure how to ask what I am trying to find out.

I create multiple art boards on a single Illustrator file, I name each art board, and when it comes time to print I simply Save As an EPS, check Use Art Boards and each art board is sent to the print server as an individual file. It's perfect. The only hick up is that the art board size is recognized by the RIP software, in this case Versaworks. So if my artwork is 2" x 5" but the art board is 20" x 20", the file loaded on Versaworks is 20" x 20". From Versaworks I can just crop down to the artwork size. Or, I could size the art board to the size of the artwork BEFORE saving it as an EPS.

My workaround is once each individual EPS is created and saved, I'll open one make no changes at all and just Save As again, select replace and save. I change none of the EPS settings, just Save As and replace it. I'll do this for each file. Well, this new file will still have the larger art board, but Versaworks won't recognize it. So as my prior example, a file with a 20" x 20" art board will only recognized the artwork of 2" x 5". That's ideally the solution I'd want without having to re save. Is it in the EPS settings when I initially save? If that's the case, why does it change when I re save yet change none of the settings?

I'm able to replicate this situation without even using Versaworks. If I just place those original eps files in InDesign, it uses the artboard size, but if I open and resave in Illustrator and place again in InDesign, it only uses the artwork. I'm thinking this is by design. When you choose "Use Artboard" when saving an eps (or another format for that matter), Illustrator is literally using the artboard as the bounding box for the file size. I'm not sure it's a bug at all. The question I have for you is, whey don't you just resize the artboard to the actual size of your artwork? That would address the issue even when saving as eps using the "use artboard" option. You can do this very easily by selecting the Artboard tool and then choose "fit to selected artwork" from the artboard dropdown menu in the Control panel.

When importing in InDesign you have to "Show import options".

There you have to select the correct bounding box from the menu.

Not in an eps Monika. You don't get those options even when showing import options.
