Saved file to cloud, reverted back to older version

I repeatedly saved (both manually and autosave) a file on AI today, to creative cloud.

I had made updates to it, saved it, closed the program and reopened later. Everything was fine. Then I worked for about 4 hours, the program crashed and didn't recover my file. An older version that didn't reflect the first round of changes or second round of changes was all that I could find. Nothing in data recovery folder or recycle bin. Is there any way to get it back ????

Hello @Afruitbat,

I am sorry to hear about the issue you faced with the file data loss after the Illustrator crashed. I understand how frustrating it can be to lose your work, especially after putting in hours of effort.

Based on the information you provided, it seems that the file was not recoverable, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. It is possible that the recovery feature was turned off in your Adobe Illustrator preferences, which could explain why you did not receive a prompt to recover the file after the program crashed.

To avoid similar issues in the future, I would recommend enabling the recovery feature in Adobe Illustrator preferences, especially for complex files. This can help prevent data loss and ensure that you have a backup in case of unexpected crashes.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to us. We'd be happy to help.

Best,

Anshul Saini

So this file was saved as an AI file into the Creative Cloud folder and it's not an AIC file?

Don't ever rely on Recovery for more than the last 30 minutes of working. When a crash happens while saving, Recovery will be affected as well. Crashes while saving are almost always taking down your files.

In Preferences turn off "Save in background"

And then: Save early, save often, save different version, so that you don't have just one copy of your file. Always have more than one copy. If you don't want to handle that manually, take a look at the plugin Autosaviour.
