Saving Issues with current Illustrator 29.7 ver

Community Beginner ,

Any other users getting this lil oddity saving error message every other day with the last 2 versions I wanna say? Like, it always then lets me save said file, but the error message itself is new to me in all my 15+ years of using the software 🤔

Other stuff happens too, but this is a daily occurrence. This just seems the most buggy release in awhile.

@Daniel Bevis Ouch, I hate that! So, I would try a variety of ways until it stops the insanity. No particular order as I am going through what I would do when this '$*(^! happens to me!

  • I did noticed a comma (,) in the file name. I never add any commas, periods, slashes, spaces ( !?.;:,\/ < > ) to my file names. That could be the reason. If I remember correctly, on a PC, it always give me fits. Granted, I am on a MAC now, but, I still follow that practice. Try saving the filename with hyphens,

Try saving the filename with hyphens, dashes or underScores if you really want a break form the name? I normally name my files as impactReport-vers1 or impactReport_vers1

  • Try saving your file to a different folder,, a different drive, or even to the cloud. Sometimes a simple change in location can bypass a permissions or file path issue.

  • Preferences do get corrupted over time. Create a clean set of preference files and often resolves a variety of strange behaviors. To do this, press and hold Ctrl Alt Shift (PC) or Cmd Option Shift (MAC) immediately after launching Illustrator. Restart Illustrator to create a new set of Preferences.

  • You could manually delete it from your computer, I do it when my MAC acts up. Last year, when I replaced the internal battery and got it back, everything acted up. Apple told me to delete the contents of the preferences. I had doubt, and copy it just in case and place it on my desktop. Then selected the contents in the original preferences and deleted it. It worked like a charm. Granted and oddly, it was 17 gigs of space to 384kb!?! So, obviously that was the issue oon my end!

  • If nothing works, and it is significantly impacting your work, the most reliable solution is to roll back to an older version of Illustrator that was more stable. You can do this through the Creative Cloud desktop application.

Good luck!

Ah, thank you for the concise breakdown of solutions.

I tried the file syntax change firstly. It made the most sense and, thankfully, it was only a very recent rountine change of mine, so was rectified in just a few minutes.
Though I did run into the same saving error again with the amended [and other normal] files.

Thus I kept a copy of my Preferences and reset them in Illustrator. Not run into it again today!

I guess, even disregarding any genuine [unexpected] changes that come with the software updates that, like most things [browsers, routers etc] you need to 'clear the cache' every now and again. I'll bare this trick in mind for future 'hiccups'.

Thanks again for all your insight and help!

~ Dan

Not getting that error, but in the latest update my files are always showing as having unsaved changes -- even if I **just** saved the file. The only way around it is to save as. So annoying.

Hello @katherineboroski,

Sorry for the delayed response. Could you share more details, like the version of the OS installed and if this happens with all files, or files stored in a particular folder location, so we can better assist you?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Anubhav
