Since updating Illustrator to 29.7.1, I've run upon several issues that are affecting productivity, but the two that are the biggest losers are the randomly-appearing-on-save "The document "" is currently getting saved. Try again after the process is complete" issue and the Preferences > Keyboard Increment change.
This random save issue is probably the Gold Medal Winner winner of the Frustration Olympics from my angle as when it pops up, the only way I can get around it is to set Paste Remembers Layers, copy all the elements I'm working with to a new document, check that all colors, layters, etc are correct, save it as a new working file, close/reopen the app then delete the original file so I don't get it mixed up with the new one. This is, as they say, no bueno por caca. Oh, and not to mention the poor grammar of "getting saved."
Runnerup is a lil guy who doesn't seem like much of a contender, but he packs a punch... After years of the preferences window defaulting to Preferences > Keyboard Increment being active upon opening (thus my being used to hitting Ctrl+K, entering a value for the keyboard increment and tapping <return> without really looking,) in 29.7.1, it now defaults to the Search Parameters field being active. So now it's Ctrl+K, 4x tab, enter value and hit return 2x. I realize this is not a dealbreaker but more of a "dammit, Adobe, don't fix it if it ain't broke" annoyance.
This update is also chock full of surprises like weird redraw issues, commands not completing or even recognizing being called and other oddball save issues that I've only seen randomly a couple of times, therefore not documentable (yet). Anyone else?

Hello everyone,
Our product team has tried fixing this with the latest Illustrator (beta) release. Would you mind installing Illustrator (beta) and letting us know if it helps?
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Currently working on a 2024 14 inch M4 Pro using Sequoia 15.6.1
I have been noticing this problem persisting ever since Adobe updated my Illustrator program to version 29.7.1
The documents I work on range from 1-5mb files for web ads to larger works for web framing needs. I work on a shared network at my company where we save our files onto a server, but I also save my work to my computer's hard drive to save space and make it easier to work from home without the use of a VPN. Ever since I updated to the latest version of Illustrator, I've been having this continuous issue. I will be in the middle of creating a spread and in trying to be responsible I would hit command + save function to ensure my work wasn't lost, but the document would go into this freezing cycle where it clearly wasn't saving my progress, and no matter what I would do it would not allow me to restart Illustrator unless I did the (command + option + esc) function to force quit the application. This has lost me immense progress on many of my projects, it has lead to my work feeling disjointed and frustrating to complete, and I will be reverting back to the previous version of Illustrator until this problem is solved.

Not to mention the bad grammar. The document is being saved, not getting saved. Or the document is saving. But I hear your frustration and can relate. It doesn't happen to me often, but it's maddening when it does, and always on a deadline.

Yeah. I'm also having this: 'The document'' is currently getting saved. Try again after the process is complete.' It just hangs and I have to force quit illustrator. Please fix this Adobe.

This isn't just incredibly annoying, it is completely interfering with my job! I have already lost 2 hours of work due to this issue.

here is a screen shot of the way it shows saving, and the file naming so you have an idea of how completely obnoxious this is.

I'm having the same issue for days now. Mac 15.6.1 (24G90). AI version 29.7.1.
I have to export as a PDF, restart computer, open PDF in AI and resave. Happens too often and files are getting messy.
Any resolution to this yet??

I open a file, and as soon as I make a change the Title bar says "Saving..." after the file name. Won't go away. Won't let me Save, Save As, Save a Copy, or anything. I can still use Illustrator though just fine. But I have to force quit and then cross my fingers that the recovered file actaully saved everything.

Dude THANK YOU!
I recently switched over laptops, and this one has the most updated version of illustrator and I can't even use illustrator on it because of all of these weird new bugs in AI... the saving thing is BY FAR the most annoying issue. I thought it had something to do with the automatic saving because it was auto saving my file every 10 seconds when I went into preferences (that may be an old feature and I've just never noticed it before), but I switched that to "autosave every 30 minutes" and it seemed like it worked for the remainder of the time I was working in that file. Then the next day when I opened it the issue started happening AGAIN and I went back into my preferences and had to re-do the "autosave every 30 minutes" step and it seems like with each file I open/anytime I close out of AI and go back in I have to change that setting to prevent the "saving" issue from happening again which is TRULY so annoying because Im not even sure if its even a fix to the issue or just an extremely annoying bandaid that I'll just have to remember everytime I open a file so that I dont wind up with 37 variations of the same file because AI is "saving" for four hours when its really just crashed and frozen. The fact this hasnt been fixed when this many other creators are complaining is f*cking ridiculous.

Hello @Kasteel5FDF,
Could you share more details, like the version of the OS/Illustrator installed on your device and if this happens with specific files or files stored in a particular folder location, so we can better assist you?
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi Anubhav.
Don't worry I just went to google/youtube and ended up having to reset Illustrator THREE times untill it finally stopped trying to save every single second preventing me from saving and causing itself to crash.

Since I upgraded Illustrator I keep having this problem where after Illustrator has been running for awhile when I try to close a file it asks me if I want to save it. I can tell it 100 times to save it, but every time I try to close it, it asks me if I want to save and won't close the file.
I just had an issue where I designed something and I saved it with a new file name. When I looked at the file name in the window tab it was the old file name. It did save out a file though with the new file name. When I went to open that file it said it was in use or read only. Which it's not... and the file is 0kb. So it's obviously a completely empty document.
I mean what can I do here? How can I work if I can't save my work and it's just lost to oblivion. I already tried turning of 'save in background' and it hasn't changed anything in how Illustrator is behaving.

@defaultwspufbjdbleu it sounds it's like corrupted preferences. Use the keyboard shortcuts to reset the preferences. Before you do save your special settings like brushes, etc because these will be wiped. But, double check you have enough RAM and disk space. A lack of resources can cause an application to crash or behave weird sometimes.
For resetting prferences, Hold Ctrl Alt Shift (PC) or Cmd Option Shift (MAC) immediately after launching Illustrator. You will be prompted to reset your preferences. I would restart the computer after doing so for good measure and also when Illustrator is restarted it generates a new set of preferences

No idea what's happened to Illustrator, but it's so much glitchier since the latest update. Saved files say they aren't saved, so you close "unsaved". OR, the file says it's 'saving' but it's doing nothing. Have to force quit - happily the recovered files are restoring to save again. Am saving to Lucid cloud storage. Thanks.

Thanks for sharing the details. Could you confirm which version of Illustrator and the OS you're currently on? Also, does this only happen when saving to Lucid cloud storage or do you see the same issue if you save to your local drive or Creative Cloud? It would be helpful if you could test saving locally once to check if the problem is specific to Lucid. If the error continues even locally, please try resetting Illustrator preferences after backing them up and see if that resolves it. If it continues, please test the issue in safe mode to isolate any third-party software, service intervention. Ref:

If possible, share a short screen recording of the save behavior.
Looking forward to your update.

Hi Abhishek,
Thanks for your quick reply, Ai is version 29.7.1 on Mac OS Ventura 13.7.7. I'll try saving locally, but I can't share a screen recording as it's confidential client work. That said, I don't recall this episode occuring on my own personal project work saved locally. These are the error messages - odd that it doesn't correctly display the filename in the quote marks. Thanks

We are experiencing a similar issue using Illustrator CC 2025 v.29.7.1 : working on files saved to Google Drive, using MacOS Sequoia 15.5. We work away on a file (hitting save manually and frequently) and hours later experience a crash and autorecovery AND the actual saved file produce results that show that no actual saving had been occuring throughout the day. This gut-wrenching. Do we start saving files locally? How do we know that our files are acutally saving when closing and reopening reveals that nothing has been saving even though it says it has been?
