Saving my logo with a transparent background to use in other ways.

I am new to illustrator and I created a logo using shapes and type in illustrator. I have it grouped together. I'm not sure what I need to do to save it as one entity. I also need to save it in a format that has no background so I can use it on business cards, shirts, etc. I tried doing the png. but when I opened it there was still a white background it. Please someone help!

    PNG is not the format to use for printing. Save it as a PDF, and it should work fine.

    A pdf will work (and keep the file as vector) but if you want to keep the file vector and maintain full edibility save it as Illustrator's native format .ai. I would not recommend an .eps. An .eps is an out of date format (it has not been updated since the 1990s) and can not be relied upon to maintain full transparency.

    There should be no background unless you created one.

      Try to save it as an Illustrator .eps.

          Create a temporary background any color. Send it behind your current artwork. If you can still see your art plus the background, then your art is transparent. Just remove the temp background.
