Scaling Problems with Canon TA-20

I'm having issues when printing to my TA-20. It is wanting to scale up my images to the edge of the page. My file is the same width as the roll in the printer (17") and the artwork doesn't bleed off the edge of the artboard (page). In the print dialog box the page size is Defined by Driver. The roll size is defined with no margins in the Page Setup window and set up for the TA-20. Everywhere there is a scaling option it is set at 100% or Do Not Scale, but every time I print it seems as if it is scaled up to 102% and running my artwork off the edges of the roll. I did measure the roll, and it is correct @ 17". I've tried Canon's support forum and have gotten absolutely no response, so that avenue is a dead-end and very frustrating.

Correct answer Brad @ Roaring Mouse

Look for the setting for Extension in your printer driver. On borderless printing, alignment on an exact width of paper is near impossible, so many drivers for borderless printing have a setting for Extension (from Minimum to Maximum) which enlarges the output slightly. If so, try adjust it to a smaller setting.

Also, which System are you on?

fyi: re: Paper Size. Custom is typically greyed out on non-Postscript devices in Illustrator's print dialog box as its ability to change this is a Postscript function through the print dialog. If you want to create a custom page size, you need to do that in Page Setup. This is not the place you would set your paper to a 17" roll... that would be in your printer driver.

Pinhole Jones,

"In the print dialog box the page size is Defined by Driver."

I believe that setting is causing the issue.

What happens if you change it?

Which options are there?

If I try to change it, it just has all the standard sheet size formats listed, but the "Custom" entry is grayed out. There are also no roll sizes listed. I am wondering if I need to import some information regarding the rolls but don't have a clue where to begin in doing that. By using the Page Setup, it is using a very simplified version of the Canon driver. I believe you are correct in that the problem lies in there somewhere, but there again, don't know where to dig deeper on that.

Pinhole Jones,

What happens if you try to update the printer driver?

Or Save a Copy as PDF and print from Acrobat?

Is the driver Postscript (emulating)?
