Screen goes black when picking a tool

When I try to pick a tool, like the Type Tool or the Paint Brush, the screen goes black for about a second. This happens when I hover the mouse pointer over a tool or when I move the mouse pointer from one tool to the next so if I move to 3 different tools without selecting any of them the screen goes black 3 times. Any ideas on what is causing this?

 

I don't believe it is a driver issue because I contacted the computer manufacturer and they took over my screen and updated all the drivers that needed to be updated, even the Microsoft store apps and Bios got updated

Please try if it gets better when you turn off the GPU acceleration in the preferences. After that you will know for sure whether it is you card or its driver.

Hi Monika, I went to the display settings in Windows and I turned off the GPU acceleration but still there was no improvement. What do you think it might be then?

Hello @Vangroovie,

 

Sorry to hear about this experience. Kindly try turning off GPU Performance under Illustrator's preferences, as suggested by Monika, and share your observations.

 

Also, try updating the GPU drivers, restart the computer and relaunch Illustrator to check if it helps.
