Seamless artwork/patterns for Hawaiian style shirts

Community Beginner ,
Aug 30, 2017 Aug 30, 2017

Hi everyone,

I am an artist wanting to create Hawaiian style summer shirts using my artwork in a repeat style for fashion textile.

Questions:

  1. What steps do I take after scanning and vectoring the work? i.e, tools to use in illustrator to make a repeated pattern
  2. What do I save it as for a screen printer?
  3. Has anyone done this procedure?
  4. Any tutorials recommended?

Much appreciation

Jason

In Illustrator use pattern editing mode. Please read about it in the documentation.

There are also tutorials available.

Many people do this all the time.

As for what the screen printer needs: ask them. They know best and it might vary just slightly from printing service to printing service

Jason

You could try Youtube  some good (and bad...) tutorials there

I like this ladies, SewHeidi she specializes in fashion.

For pattern making practice you could open the Symbols panel

Window > Symbols

and in it's library- bottom left -choose a few symbols to practice pattern making with.

Drag them into the Artboard

Select > All

Object > Pattern > Make

Like Heidi does here:

Seamless Repeating Textile Patterns in Illustrator: Using the Pattern Making Tool (CS6 & Newer) - Yo...

If you haven't already you might want to do a beginners course in illustrator, before you start your project, otherwise you may  running into annoying roadblocks
