Selection doesn't show

Using Illustrator v21.0.0 in MacOS X El Capitan 10.11.6

Using the filled selection tool, the selection box with handles shows to indicated that the graphic in question can be moved/modified. Using the open selection tool, this does not happen - no handles, bounding box or points are shown or highlighted - they are invisible. The item can still be moved, but none of the points are showing to enable editing. This happens at any magnification and also in outline or preview modes. Pressing 'command' while hovering over the selection brings up the filled tool selection but again, the item cannot be modified as no points are selectable. Currently, this makes the software practically useless. Any ideas? Thank you in advance.

Ctrl/Cmd+H toggles between View>Show Edges andView>Hides Edges.

I believe it (almost) always happens as a keyboard mishit for one of the surrounding keystroke shortcuts, and failing to realize that something else may have happened, then just trying again and getting it right and forgetting about it; Ctrl/Cmd+H is probably the most frequent one, completely surrounded by other keyboard shorcuts closing in on all sides.

It's normay way Illustrator works

Black Arrow select whole object and White Arrow can be use to select and modity anchors or paths

Pressing CMD kay temporary switches any tool to Selection (Black Arrow) and that's it!
