Selection tool and missing bounding box

When I use the selection tool around my entire project, I don't get the bounding box anymore. I only see 2 vertical red lines, one on each side of the project that go up and down the entire workspace. Can someone please let me know how to turn those off and see my square bounding box around the project again? Thank you.

Preview the artwork in the outline mode ( ctrl + Y)

if the lines in the middle still exist, they are unpainted objects and must be deleted, select them with the direct selection tool and hit delete , or go to object -> path clean up .

Thank you so much! Yes, outline mode showed the 2 red lines so I did the path clean up and they went away. Now when I select the art, the box is just a square around the head in a red line. Hope that is correct. Thank you again.

Your other question (minor) was why is the bounding box red nstead of blue. Look in your layers panel. You will see that the Blue layer is hidden and locked and you were on the Red layer. Each layer is  assigned its own color.

Not sure what happened but it's not compounding correctly. My original still has the 2 red vertical lines on the outside and then 2 red vertical lines side by side down the very middle of the picture. Like it's separated in 2 halves but I'm not sure how to make it one and get my square box back. Obviously I'm new to Illustrator. I have looked at discussions online but can't find this situation.

Show bounding box is on and there is a red line around the outer edge of my art board. But no rulers or other grids showing. When I select my art with the selection tool, I get a red box around the art. It used to be a blue box I think. But now the 2 long vertical red lines are gone when I select. So am I okay with the red box?

Are there guides on your artboard? Maybe you selected them.
