Hi everyone I really need help on what to do. I am working on a project and I am trying to send a shape to the back of another, I have been working on Illustrator all day and it was working and now it isn't. I have closed out of the program like three times, restarted my computer, and I updated the app. I literally do not know what else to do but I NEED to have this problem fixed somehow because arranging my objects the right way is really importtant for what I am working on. They are all in one layer together and I am beyond frustrated, please anyone help me out 😞

Click on the item and look at the Appearance Panel it will tell you if it's part of a group, compound path etc.

Or create a new layer (or sub layer) and move the item there, then change the layer stacking... If it is part of a group, compound path, clipping group, blend etc, all the associated items will move too - break that association and you can move them independently.

Without seeing your layers panel, I don't know what is going on. And while it may be a pain, you can always manually drag the sublayer to where you want it. But if you take a screen shot and let us know what sublayer you want to move, we can be more helpful.

Hi @julianaranjo,

Thanks for reaching out. Would you mind confirming if you're using shortcuts to arrange objects? Does the object gets arranged if you use the Object menu > arrange or right-click to arrange objects? If it's not working from the object menu, then I would suggest resetting Illustrator preferences.

Kindly update the discussion if you still need assistance with it. We'd be happy to help.

Thanks,
Anshul Saini
