Title: Serious Issues with Adobe Illustrator 29.6.1: Saving Stuck, Preview Error, Crashes, and More Description: I am experiencing multiple critical issues with Adobe Illustrator 29.6.1 on Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. Symptoms include: Saving Stuck: When attempting to save a file (Ctrl + S), the message "Saving" appears and the file gets stuck, followed by the error "Unable to finish previewing and the operation cannot be completed."
Color Spaces Message: In new documents (Ctrl + N), the message "This document contains elements in different color spaces" appears, even with default settings.
Rendering Issues: Images appearing where they weren't.
Unexpected changes to fill colors.
Distorted text and area text box scaling not working correctly.

Frequent Crashes: Illustrator crashes when performing actions such as saving or rescaling objects.
I can't revert to 29.5.1 because the text in the files becomes curved and no longer editable.

System Details: OS: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit.
Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 3500.
RAM: 16 GB.
GPU: Radeon RX 570 (4 GB VRAM, driver 31.0.21923.1000).
The issues persist in both GPU and CPU modes.

Testing: Resetting preferences: I renamed Adobe Illustrator Prefs and Adobe Illustrator Cloud Prefs to %appdata%\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator 29 Settings\es_ES\x64 with Illustrator closed, but the issues persist.

Clean environment: I started Windows in selective startup (msconfig). Illustrator worked fine initially, but the saving issue and preview error returned.

Antivirus: I added exceptions for C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator 2025 and the Desktop in McAfee. I also temporarily disabled real-time protection. It worked at startup, but the problem returned.

Rendering modes: I tested in GPU and CPU mode, with no change in symptoms.

Other tests: I checked permissions on the Desktop (C:\Users\<my_username>\Desktop) and I have "Full Control."

Since it won't let me save, it stops previewing and everything appears in outline. Obviously, all work done is lost when the program closes.

Questions: Is this a known bug in Illustrator 29.6.1? Is a patch available?
What additional steps can I try to resolve the saving and preview issues?

I appreciate any help or recommendations to resolve or mitigate these issues while working on my projects. Thanks!

August 28th 2025, Also having issues with Saving Stuck: When attempting to save a file (Ctrl + S), the message "Saving" appears on top, and the file gets stuck. I always have to force quit if not it will stay that way forever. This happens with every file.

I am having the same issues running 29.6.1. crashing when i preview, saving freezing my entire machine and all programs - i can't even force quit.

I'm having serious issues too. MANY issues. A couple just to start:

- When grouping object on top of a mask, the program will mask everything with the top layered object.

- The program will keep changing an object back to how it was several steps back.

- Keeps moving an object to its original position if moved.

- cannot change colors on certain objects.

- fonts keep reverting to default fonts if a type graphic is moved or color changed

- The toolbar keeps dissapearing and cannot be found (have to restart)

- The program window edge will pin itself to the computer screen edge and cannot be moved.

There's many more. The amount of work arounds I have to do to design in appaling. Shambles of a release.

The adobe update teams strikes again, thank you for releasing with a MAJOR bug. No one can stay in business and keep raising prices like adobe for a bad products.

I too have noticed more crashed recently with illustrator, especially when copy and pasting or move large images around the artboard.

My saves dont get stuck, but as I mentioned in another post, they are much slower than what I remember them to be.

4 A6 artboards open, each with their own design. It takes illu around 4 seconds to save the file. during saving, I don't have any other program open.

Estoy experimentando los mismos problemas que describes en la versión de Illustrator 29.6.1, trabajo en Mac, sistema Operativo Sequoia 15.5 en una Intel Core i9 de 8 nucleos y 2.4 Ghz. debido a eso volvi a la versión instalada de Illustrator 28,7.8 y no he vuelto a tener inconvenientes.

El problema en la version 29.6.1 se incrementó en algunos archivos con vectores con transparencias y texturas, pero en otro tipo de archivos sin estos vectores, se bloquea y se queda la ventana de "Guardando en segundo plano" sin responder, pero el archivo no guarda los cambios y he observado también que genera un .tmp en la carpeta.

También observe que al oprimir ESC la ventana de guardado desaparece y el archivo se pone en previsualización, y no permite volver a modo de pantalla normal. Toca forzar cierre y se pierde el avance en el proyecto.

He decidido volver a la versión 2024. Quisisra saber cuando estara solicuonado y corregdo el problema.

Hola, gracias por poner en que versión esta funcionando. Voy a probar, aunque será generar archivos nuevos, porque la ultima vez que probé versiones anteriores me había curveado los textos.

En efecto, esta versión es la última estable. Todo funciona perfecto y con múltiples mesas de trabajo.

I am having the same issues on Mac with 29.6.1 and have reverted to 29.5.1. My partner also having the same issues on 29.6.1.

Hi, I am having the same issues on my Macbook Pro 16. I'm using OS Sequoia 15.5. I have open an Illustrator file with about 15 artboards but I am only working on the first one. When I save the file, Illustrator shuts down. It will recover it but nothing is saved. Right now for me it is any Illustrator file I open to work on, whether it is a small job or large job and it fails when I save. Which makes it difficult to get any of my work done. lol

With the new version (29.6.1) I'm experiencing this: on area type text ("paragraphs") , randomly and with any font, I select a part of the text and change its weight or color and it applies it on other lines. But if I convert that area type in a point type or even convert it to outlines, the formatting and color reverts to the correct one I made.

Reverted to 29.6 and the issue persists, which is super odd because I only have this issue since yesterday, after installing v 29.6.1

Also, try performing a clean reinstallation of the GPU(s) drivers (Intel / NVIDIA / AMD) and setting the Graphics Preference to High-Performance for Illustrator (https://adobe.ly/4nDAq2Y) and share your observations.

If the problem persists, kindly check if Illustrator behaves this way with specific files or files from a particular folder location (internal/external/network drive or a cloud-synced folder like Google Drive/Dropbox/etc.), so I can better assist you.

Hi Anubhav, I tried it with another Windows user account because I was already an administrator, and it didn't work. I also reinstalled the driver, but that didn't work either. I also tried the high-performance option, but that didn't work either. I also tried your last suggestion, and it didn't work. I'm writing you several errors that occur:
1. It doesn't finish previewing.
2. When creating new documents, it shows elements from different color spaces. Convert them.
3. When pasting elements, it says, "The operation cannot be completed because there is an invalid object or parameter."
4. It doesn't finish executing processes like saving or pasting.
5. When opening, it keeps showing pop-ups about incomplete progress.
