Severe Font Issues after Adobe Logout + Ongoing Copy-Paste Bug in Illustrator

On July 2nd, Creative Cloud unexpectedly disconnected during my work session (confirmed via status.adobe.com). I was logged out, Adobe Fonts were disabled, and Illustrator automatically replaced all missing fonts in several open files – in some cases with completely unrelated fonts like barcode styles.

Without any prompt or confirmation, Illustrator saved these changes on closing. The result: corrupted files, with key fonts now appearing at the very bottom of the font list, ungrouped and partially unusable.

Additionally, I've been struggling with a longstanding Copy & Paste issue in Illustrator:
Certain text blocks can’t be copied between documents – even though the SVG clipboard option is disabled.

Questions:
- Why does Illustrator silently replace missing fonts and save without asking?

- Is there any way to disable or block this behavior?

- Are there known fixes for the persistent Copy & Paste issue?

This happened right before a deadline and an upcoming print delivery – it cost me a tremendous amount of time and energy and was absolutely unacceptable under those conditions.

Copying and pasting is often interrupted by third party apps. For example these:

  • Parallels Toolbox running with the Clipboard History
  • LogoTech Keyboard management software
  • TeamVewer Clipboard > Use Shared Clipboard
  • Apple iOS device simulator from Xcode
  • Windows Multi-clipboard
  • Windows Clipboard History
  • Clippy
  • Chrome Remote Desktop
  • Mouse Pointer Highlighter
  • AnyViewer
  • Pastebot app
  • Overzealous antivirus (Digital Guardian) as well as viruses that empty the clipboard
  • Vector Magic

Hi @randolfm,

Thanks a lot for sharing the details. I'm so sorry to hear how disruptive this was, especially right before your deadline.

I tried reproducing this but could not. When I logged out of Creative Cloud, my open documents asked me to save before closing, instead of changing any fonts. Are you still facing this issue? If yes, please try clearing the font cache. Helpful reference: https://adobe.ly/4nxex5g

Could you also confirm the version of Illustrator you are using and your operating system details? If the issue is reproducible on demand, it would be really helpful if you could share a screen recording, so we can better understand what’s happening.

For the ongoing Copy and Paste issue, please let me know if this happens with all your files or only with specific ones. Also, where is the affected file saved, on your local system drive, an external drive, the cloud, or a network location? If it isn’t saved locally, please try moving it to your system drive and test again. You can also test in safe mode to rule out any interference from third-party programs or services.

How to start in safe mode:
Windows: https://adobe.ly/44GHIeJ
macOS: https://adobe.ly/46rDMQd

If possible, please also share a short screen recording showing what happens when you try to copy and paste text blocks between documents. This will help us understand exactly how it behaves on your end and find the right solution.

Looking forward to your update so we can help resolve this as quickly as possible.

Many thanks to Abhishek Rao and Monika for the previous replies, and sorry for the late feedback – I was under a lot of work pressure.
First, here are the system details I hadn’t provided before: Three machines (2× workstation, 1× laptop), all running Windows 11 Pro (24H2, all updates installed), latest Creative Cloud version, Illustrator downgraded to 29.6, Intel i7, 32 GB RAM, SSD, RTX GPU. The problems occur identically on all three systems.

I downgraded to version 29.6 because 29.7.1 (and 29.7) were absolutely unusable for me. In some cases, files could no longer be opened or saved at all (saving sometimes took several minutes, opening often ended in a complete crash).

Additionally, these versions caused massive font chaos: fonts in files were randomly swapped, often in a completely mixed-up way. Notably, these incorrect assignments were already visible in the thumbnails in Adobe Bridge.

The copy & paste issue unfortunately persists, even in 29.6 – here, the clipboard only works about 50 % of the time. I temporarily disabled all possible interfering factors (Chrome extensions, Nextcloud, Synology, GDrive, OneDrive, etc.). I did not disable Extensis Connect – it could theoretically play a role, but uninstalling it would be my very last resort, as a well-established font library would be at stake.

Interestingly, I’ve already found many of these bugs as isolated cases in the forums – but in my case, they all seem to occur at the same time, making work almost impossible.

This issue is not resolved – the same problems still occur on all three of my systems.

Hello @randolfm,

I'm sorry to hear about your experience. Our team is aware of the problems and is currently investigating them.

For the Fonts issue, kindly share a link to a sample file you're having trouble with, so I can check it with the team.

For help with the copy-paste crash issues, please try installing the latest Windows Defender security intelligence update, 1.435.148.0, and let us know if it helps.

Hi @defaultanzdzvri4cly,

Thanks so much for jumping in and sharing that you're seeing the same problem. I know how frustrating this must be.

Could you please confirm which version of Illustrator and macOS you're using? Also, let me know if this happens with all files or just specific ones.

For the spinning issue, please try signing out and back into the Creative Cloud desktop app to force font syncing. If it still happens, clear your font cache using this guide: https://adobe.ly/4leGDAK. Also make sure your document fonts are activated in Creative Cloud.

If possible, please share a sample packaged file with us for testing (via File > Package). If it's confidential, you can share it privately via DM on the community.

Looking forward to your update!
