Shape-builder tool not working in my first step of usage in Adobe Illustrator

Hi... I hope you may help me in this problem.

I installed Adobe Illustrator in my pc and started with a project as my first step. But I am facing an issue with the Shape-builder Tool. As I click on the tool, it shows a single arrow with a prohibit symbol at the bottom.

Though the cursor was not visible while taking the screenshot, it is difficult for me to operate wuth the tool in my project and thatalso in my first stage.

If you kindly solve this matter then I will grateful for that.

Correct answer Ton Frederiks

Then what should I do to disable no selection?

Use the Selection Tool (V) and select the circles.

Then switch to the Shape Builder Tool (Shift M).

In your image, we don't see your circles selected. Are you trying this while having the Objects selected on which you want to use the shape builder tool?

Yes you cannot see them. As I told here already that the cursor is showing like that after clicking shape builder tool. Definitely, it will become hard for me to process it out. And I am a beginner, so I don't have any experience with this.

Select some objects first.
