shape manipulation

I'm very new to illustrator and used a tool today that was able to manipulate a circle by just clicking on it and dragging it. for the life of me, i can't recreate that tool. it's not the reshape tool and its not the anchor point tool. I wasn't clicking on a specific path to do this? maybe I dreamt it? any ideas?

The Direct Selection Tool (white arrow), the object being unselected/deselected beforehand?

About what kind of modification are you talking? Resizing, deforming? Or something else?

Also, which version of Illustrator are you using.

           the larger green shape started more or less as an oval and i was able to click on the sides to manipulate it. I would say i was deforming it.  looked more like a blob for lack of a better word and then i kinda shaped it into this with some fine tuning with the path tools. V24.0.3
