shift with resize tool in illustrator causes illustrator to freeze wacom tablet?

Hi, for weeks if i use the shift key while resizing to constrain proportions Illustrator will freeze up while in the resize tool while the object I'm resizing becomes a crazy big or distorted size. I am unable to click anywhere to get out of this and end up using Ctrl Alt delete to close down the program. Yesterday I noticed that shift worked fine when I used the mouse pad only and my Wacom was unplugged. Does anyone know what steps I should follow to try and fix this? it's very cumbersome to have to unplug my Wacom every time I want to resize a motif. Thanks

Hello Sarah36177922szyn, it's a nasty bug know since YEARS now on PC.
Neither your Wacom drivers or your login account are the culprits. You should just go in Illustrator preferences and uncheck GPU acceleration, and then your problem should be gone. Despite the good money you spend on your subscription, this bug is here since years and never get fixed (It occurs on my PC with Win 10, Win 11, CC2020, CC2022, 2023, 2024, every Wacom drivers, AMD GPU RX570, RX 6600, Nvidia RTX 4070).

Sorry a bit late in replying, but yes, almost a year later and still have the exact same issue! So I just know I have to switch to the mouse pad or mouse to resize motifs. it's quite annoying. Unclicking GPU doesn't work as my computer doesn't have Gpu. (almost time for a new computer, sigh). I have tried multiple suggestions and nothing seems to work.

Hello @Sarah36177922szyn,

We understand that encountering technical issues can be frustrating. Would you mind trying the suggestions shared in this help article (https://adobe.ly/3VQdXUU) to manually remove and reinstall the Wacom drivers to check if they help? Also, try running Illustrator under a different administrator account (Windows / macOS) and share your observations.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

Hi, I followed all the instructions to uninstall and reinstall the drivers and the issue keeps happening. When I initiate the resize tool with the key board short cut S,  I can increase and decrease size no problems using my wacom pen. However if I press the shift key it appears to be keeping proportions until I stop the pen and then release the shift key. Once the sift key releases the motif jumps to a strange proportion and then illustrator is stuck in the resize mode. If I complete the resize with shift entirely using the laptop mouse pad it works.

Hi @Sarah36177922szyn,

Thank you for trying those steps. Since the issue persists even after reinstalling the drivers, it might be worth considering rolling back to an older version of the Wacom driver to see if that resolves the issue. Sometimes, the latest drivers can introduce compatibility issues.

Additionally, if possible, you could also try reinstalling an older version of Illustrator to see if it behaves better with your Wacom tablet for better compatibility.

I hope these suggestions help resolve the issue you're facing. Let me know if you need further assistance or if you have any other questions.

Best,

Anshul Saini
