Simple circle and slash 3D bevel problem

Ok I created a circle and slash in AI, I want to add a 3D effect but I get message obly certain works on some types of images. Its like I'm adding more than one instance when I'm not.

 

work flow is 

create circle no fill 150pt stroke

create line no fill 150pt stroke

merge together

add 3d , then I get the message, it has to be something I'm doing in the workflow , amy help?

I got as far as this I do not want the center line to be another object I want the entire circle and line to be one object so you can't see the separation between line and circle follow?
