Size discrepancies when printing.

I'm using an older version of Illustrator (CS2) on an iMac.

Here's my issue: I'm creating a simple drawing to make a template for some woodwork that I'm doing.

I'm using inches as the units and using the ruler and guides.

But when I print out this drawing (which is on an 8 1/2 by 11 document), everything is smaller.

One part of the drawing, which has been measured onscreen using the ruler and guides to be 1 and 3/16 of an inch is

printing out as about 5/8 of an inch. This seems odd.

How can I get Illustrator to print out an actual inch on paper if that's what it says on the screen?

Check your print options. You might have fit to page, or some similar option selected. If that's not it your printer just might not be that accurate. Print scaled up to compensate.

You really can't use the screen output as an actual size guide. Use the transform panel in Illustrator to make sure a ⅝ in element is actually ⅝ inch. The numbers don't lie but sometimes the screen does.
