Skipped/Duplicate Artboard Issue

I have five images, each of which requires a separate artboard. I select the Artboard Tool, and click each image to create the individual artboards. Artboards 1, 2, and 3 appear without issue. When I click on the fourth image, I get Artboard 5, when it should be Artboard 4. Clicking on the fifth image, I get another Artboard 5.

As a test, I created several more artboards, and get similar issues with missing and duplicate artboards. For example, 13 is missing but there are two 14's.

I tried copying and pasting my artwork in a new file, but keep experiencing the same issue.

Does anyone know what is happening here?

I cannot replicate that.

Maybe it was a temporary problem , solved by your restarting Illustrator.

If it is a repeatable problem please reported it (with details about your configuration) here:

I have seemingly resolved the issue by closing and re-opening Illustrator, but I would still like to know what happened to cause this problem, and if there is a solution that does not require closing the software.

Thanks!

I am not sure what you are seeing.

If you place 5 images, you already placed them on Artboard 1.

Clicking the first image with the Artboard tool should create Artboard 2, the second shoul be 3 and so on.

  • Yes, I am beginning with a new, blank file, which automatically has Artboard 1 contained in it.
  • I create five separate 12"x30" images.
  • I select the Artboard Tool.
  • I click each separate image, and since Artboard 1 already exists, the first artboard to appear when I click on the first 12"x30" image is Artboard 2.
  • This does not change the fact that Artboard 4 does not appear, nor does it explain why there are two Artboard 5's, as well as the subsequent missing/duplicate artboards.

I know this is an old thread, but I'm also having this issue, where AI keeps skipping artboard #13 on all of my files. No idea why, but I noticed it today.

Hi @Aurora31834832euep,

Certainly! This behavior is unexpected. Would you be willing to try resetting Illustrator preferences? The steps are provided here.

Best,

Srishti
