Slice and knife tool not working in Illustrator CC or CS6

Hi,

I am trying to slice an object in Illustrator using the slice tool (with guides) as well as the knife tool. It will make the slice sections but when I drag the section, the object is not sliced or cut, it remains intact. My shape is a close shape, it's filled. My object is also selected. I have tried Googling this and tried doing this so many ways but my object as well as any simple shapes that I create are not sliced. What am I doing wrong? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The slice tool doesn't cut objects, it creates 'slices' (divides the file into sections for web export).

The knife tool (found under the scissors in the Advanced toolbar) does -- but you might want to show or better describe the exact outcome you want as there are other tools that might be more suitable.

I'm having the same issue at the moment. Have you found a solution? The answer that you recieved on here didn't really offer any solution.

Please show the object you want to cut selected in your workspace and describe exactly what you want to happen, what tool you try to use, and what happens instead.
