Smart Guides, Crosshairs, Hinting

I just downloaded the 2017 cc on Windows. My program is not showing the crosshairs or hinting that usually comes up in (magenta or cyan) as you drag and create objects around the page.  It was showing them for a while and I don't know what happened, but they are gone  I have read a few forums and I think I have the correct Preferences set, but I cant know for sure.  I am just looking for someone who can definitively tell me what setting needs to be checked or unchecked, that would most likely solve my problems (unless they are much more serious).  Thanks.

Smart Guides are turned on in the View menu, right?

In the same menu, is perhaps Align to Grid turned on as well? This setting would turn Smart Guides off (although they are turned on).

I'm always forgetting where crosshairs are--  but each Artboard can be different.  So for my sake and hopefully others 🙂  You can turn on crosshairs for any artboard under Artboard Options for that artboard.
