smooth tool not responding in ai

Hi y'all

i am struggling to get my smooth tool to do what it is expected to do.  It basically does nothing and i have tried many things and dont know what else to do.  i do pattern design and i translate my skteches into vector, usually using blob brush.  When i try to clean it up with smooth tool it does nothing.  please help

Can you please show before and after?

Did you check the smooth tool settings?

Thanks Monica,

I see something happening now that I have turned my settings to high on smooth.  Before it was set in the middle.  Is the proper techinique to just click on the "spot" or click and drag?

By clicking and dragging you define the part of the path that gets smoothed.
