How do I fix fonts missing from Adobe Illustrator. I see them installed in the Windows Fonts folder. I also see them working in CorelDraw. They are missing in Adobe Illustrator (Creative Cloud 27.5)

I don't know the specific cause of the conflict, but I strongly suspect the font manager built into CorelDRAW is the culprit. And this has been a problem going back several years. If I have CorelDRAW and Adobe Illustrator running simultaneously I'll see certain styles of some type families disappear from the font menu in Illustrator. When both applications are closed and then Illustator is re-launched the missing fonts become visible again in the font menu. Basically you just can't have both applications running at the same time without losing access to certain fonts.

Even CorelDRAW on its own has some serious problems handling fonts. For example, typefaces from the Google Fonts web site are growing increasingly popular and commonly used. The downloaded font files work fine in Adobe Illustrator. But many of them will glitch-out change into default Arial when attempting to apply the fonts to selected text objects. There are other examples. Overall Corel's Font Manager is just not very stable and can affect other applications when it is running.

CorelDraw's font navigator installs short cuts to fonts. Then when the file is done they're automatically removed. I've never had any trouble using their system for 20+ years. As long as you understand it then you're fine.

But regardless I am installing fonts direct by right clicking on the files and choosing install for all users. They still refuse to show up in Illustrator. But it's only some fonts. It's not the font type either since again - I have intermittent success with each type.

I just tested installing version 26 (Illustrator 2022) and the fonts are all there.

Something is going on with the latest version but I appear to be ok for now.

The font manager built into CorelDRAW used to be known as Bitstream Font Navigator, then Corel changed the name of it several years ago. But I don't think it has been around for 20 years. I don't use the application very much. I let it "watch" a specific font collection folder that I can filter on/off from within CorelDRAW. As for actually installing or removing fonts from the operating system, I still prefer doing it the old fashioned way via Windows' own Fonts folder.

Nevertheless, I cannot have CorelDRAW and Adobe Illustrator both running on my computer at the same time without it causing certain fonts to disappear from Illustrator's fonts menu. On top of that there are certain type families I can only fully use from within Adobe's applications. CorelDRAW seems to lose its mind with some typeface super families, allowing some styles to cancel out others. I've complained to Corel about it to no avail.
