Stroke lines change on straight line vs. curves

I'm using Illustrator CC 22.1 on a SurfacePro4.

When creating any straight objects (rectangle, polygon, etc) or straight lines, the stroke on the object is a plain, normal stroke.  When creating curves, or curved objects (ellipse), the stroke looks like a chalk line.  I just want a plain stroke.  No brushes are used, and I've tried selecting the object after it is drawn to remove a brush and/or apply the "basic" brush. Nothing seems to work.

The chalk look only occurs with curves, and there seems to be nothing I can do to get a plain stroke on the curve.   Do you have any ideas?

Yeah, I've seen that as an artifact before, usually if the line width is really small, or just not being interpreted in the preview.  You can also export a high res copy and see if the curve appears smooth there.

Thank you!  I drove myself crazy over that for about 2 hours yesterday before breaking down and posting to the forum.  Is this occurring because my computer isn't very powerful?  (It's a work computer).

This is occuring because of incompatiblities between your graphic card, its driver and Illustrator. The issue might go on and off with every update of either of those components. So for the moment you might try and search for a graphics driver update.

The issue might appear with any system no matter how powerful
