Strokes and colour not changing on .eps file

New Here ,

Hi,

The colours on my .eps file aren't changing despite using the eyedrop tool and going into the colour values and adjusting them myself. The stroke also isn't changing and has a resulted in a dashed line of the wrong colour with the right colour behind it (an improvement on not changing colour at all, but barely). Stroke menu doesn't have the dash selected, and the stroke and fill boxes show that the colour should be the one I am trying to change it to. There are other lines which are filled (not dashed) which aren't changing colour either.

I used the .eps file format to export the graph from Matlab as my previous method of exporting a .pdf file now only produces an uneditable image in illustrator.

tried opening the file in another illustration softwere and it worked fine.

Any ideas?

note: attached is the graph currently; shows a dashed red line on the left which has a pink fill between the dashes. This should be a pink dashed line only. The purple lines in the middle should be a darker purple (that the dashed line above it is), and the dashed blue line above the purple lines should also be purple. As can be seen, the selected line shows as purple but in the fill and stroke boxes on the left it is showing as blue...

The Group or Sublayer Khumbu_PDF also has an appearance applied. Check that too.

Check out the layers panel to analyze the objects.

The layers panel indicates that the path I have selected is in the right layer, and the appearence panel is showing me what the boxes on the left are showing (attached screen grab). I don't understand how I analyse the layers and their paths/objects; could you provide more information?

The fill in the appearence box is saying there is no fill. I first thought it was indicating the red dashed line of the object selected, but when I clicked it onto white, it filled the space under the curve rather than getting rid of the dashed line. Also note the colour of the purple line which in the OP was selected and showed blue in the left boxes is infact purple, and not blue (still showing as bright light blue when clicked on).

Double-click on 'Layer' in the appearance panel.

There appears to be a stroke or fill applied there. Remove it.

Attached is a screen shot to show that I have done that and the red dashed line is still there. The mouse is hovering over the fill to show that it considers there to be no fill, yet still the dashed line is there.

Hope that can be seen.

Thanks; that was the problem! Can I ask if there is a way to tell that in adobe? or is it just something you learn to check?

You can see that the appearance dot to the right of the name in the layers panel is filled in; this means there is some appearance applied there.
