Superscript and subscript missing when copy pasted from Google Docs

Hi. Hopefully, someone can help me with this. I'm working on a project with multiple citations/references, and when I copy-paste the text from Google Docs into Illustrator, the superscript and subscript formats don't work, so I had to manually change those back. Is there a way to preserve the superscript and subscript formats when copy-pasting into Illustrator? Thanks!

First saving to RTF or DOC and then placing that is not an option?

Hi. Thank you for your reply but saving to RTF or DOC and then placing didn't work either. Hopefully, someone can help resolve this.

I've tested RTF and for me it worked.

Would you mind sharing what version of Illustrator you're using?

I've tested it in version 2025 on Mac OS

I know it's a bit of a hassle, but would you mind sharing a step-by-step screenshot of saving to RTF or Doc (from Google Docs) and pasting it into Illustrator? It's still not working on my end even when I updated to version 2025.

I saved the RTF from TextEdit since I do not use Google Docs.

And also: do not paste it into Illustrator, but use File > Place
