SVG drawing is exporting with wrong colors

Hi all,

I traced an image in Illustrator using the pencil and pen tools. I'm trying to export my drawing via SVG. However, when I export, half my colors turn to black when I place it in InDesign. I have a grey background behind the drawing, and half of the grey shows up in InDesign, but other parts appear as black. In general, some of the colors work in some places, and some of the colors show up as black in other parts of the drawing. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Illustrator, but that didn't work.

I've never had this happen before. How do I fix it?

I would rather not for privacy purposes. I tried switching from all spot colors to all process colors, and I'm still having the same issue but get a different result every time. The black still shows up in areas, but it'll be in some areas over others depending on whether I use process or spot colors.

The colors look fine when I export as PNG, but the drawing is horribly blurry.

I'm so confused - it's just a drawing, and I'll I've used are pen and pencil tools. I have no idea what's going on.

Maybe something got corrupted with the swatches somehow?

What do you want to do with the InDesign file? Make an EPUB or will that be printed?

I'm going to use it for print.

I've tried using different swatches, but it's still not working.

Maybe the entire file is corrupted, but I really don't want to start over...

Just don't use SVG for print.

Save as AI with "PDF compatibility" enabled.

I am noticing that when I try switching out the swatches, I get an "either/or" situation.

I can either have this blue, or this green, for example.

If one works the other won't.

Hi @Deleted User,

We are sorry for the delayed response and the trouble. I hope the issue is resolved by now. If not, I would request you to try the following steps and let us know if it helps:

Generate the SVG file as follows:

  1. File > Save As (SVG)
  2. In the SVG Options dialog that opens up, click on the "More Options" button.
  3. Change the drop-down menu "CSS Properties" to "Presentation Attributes."

If this doesn't help, I will request you to share the Ai file with us, and we will check on our end.

Also, please confirm the exact OS & version of Illustrator.

We'll be looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Anshul Saini
