Hi everyone,
I'm trying to export a file in svg but I get black filled shapes instead of my meticulously tuned strokes.
I tried to reopen the svg file in illustrator, and it looks like the issue comes from the compound path elements.
Attached are 3 screen shots :
- from the .ai file with one compound path with a stroke and no fill
- 2 prntscrn from the .svg file with the same compound path element that now has a fill but no stroke
It's a project that I'm taking over from a previous contractor, and I wasn't familiar with compound paths before that. I have to say I don't really see the point in working with that tool. Maybe in some other situation it's handy, but here it's a nightmare. I can't find a way to "dissolve" those compound path once and for all.
Anyone knows how to preserve my artwork in strokes with no fill?
Thanks so much for your help.

Hi Emmanuel,
It sounds like you're encountering an issue with SVG export, particularly with compound paths affecting the stroke and fill attributes of your artwork. Compound paths can indeed sometimes behave unexpectedly during export.
To preserve your artwork with strokes and not fill in the SVG file, select the compound path in Illustrator, then go to Object > Expand. This will convert the compound path into individual paths, which may resolve the issue with strokes and fills during export.
Regarding dissolving compound paths, you can try selecting the compound path and using the Pathfinder panel (Window > Pathfinder) to break it apart into individual paths.
I hope these suggestions help resolve your issue with SVG export. If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, feel free to ask!
Best regards,
Anshul
