SVG Export Includes White Space in 26.1

As of the recent 26.1 update, my SVG exports are now including whitespace where I don't want it. I have an object that goes outside of my artboard, and previously when exported to SVG it would crop out all whitespace, while still including the portion of the object that goes outside of the artboard.

With the recent update, I now have to change the arboard size to match the width and height of my object, then check the "Use Artboards" option to achieve the same effect as before.

Is this behavior intended? Or a bug? I've attached 3 images: my Illustrator view, the exported SVG as of 26.1 update, and an exported SVG before the update (what I would expect it to look like, no whitespace).
