SVG exports not working in 29.1

New Here ,
Dec 25, 2024 Dec 25, 2024

I updated my Illustrator to version 29.1 and have not been able to export any SVGs. I just constantly get an error when trying to export. Anyone else having this issue?

Any ways to troubleshoot this...

****SOLUTION: Restarted the entire Adobe Suite and once it closed down and started up again my SVG has been able to be exported without any issues. Thanks!!!

1. Could you let us know the operating system you're using (e.g., Windows or macOS version)?
2. Is the issue specific to a particular file, or are you experiencing it with all files, including newly created ones in Illustrator?
3. Have you made any recent changes to your system, such as updates or custom export settings?

Hi glamorous_Galaxy5CB3,

Thanks for sharing your concern, and I understand how frustrating it can be when export functionality isn't working.

A few Questions to Help Diagnose the Issue:
1. Could you let us know the operating system you're using (e.g., Windows or macOS version)?
2. Is the issue specific to a particular file, or are you experiencing it with all files, including newly created ones in Illustrator?
3. Have you made any recent changes to your system, such as updates or custom export settings?

In the meantime, try the below suggestions:

1. Create a simple new file (e.g., a rectangle on an artboard) and try exporting it as an SVG.

2. Ensure you're exporting to a folder on your local drive (not a network or external drive).

3. Reset Illustrator preferences to their default by holding Alt+Ctrl+Shift (Windows) or Option+Command+Shift (macOS) while starting Illustrator. Reference: How to set preferences in Illustrator

4. Instead of Export for Screens, use File > Save As and choose SVG.

Let us know how these steps work for you. If the issue persists, feel free to share more details or additional screenshots for further assistance.

Thanks,

Abhishek Rao

  • Check Save Location and Permissions: Ensure that the folder you are exporting to has the proper write permissions. Try saving to a different location like your desktop.

  • Update Illustrator: Sometimes minor patches are released to fix such issues. Check for any available updates in the Creative Cloud app.

  • Reset Preferences: Corrupted preferences can cause export issues. To reset:

    • Press Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Cmd+Option+Shift (Mac) when launching Illustrator.
    • Click “Yes” when prompted to delete the current settings.
  • Check Export Settings:

    • Ensure that the artboard isn’t too complex or contains unsupported features for SVGs (e.g., certain effects or hidden layers).
    • Try using the "Save As" option and selecting SVG format instead of "Export Artboard."
  • Reinstall Illustrator: If the issue persists, uninstall Illustrator via the Creative Cloud app and then reinstall it.
