Symbol is corrupted

Question

I created a symbol that was a logo with a drop show. I made it a symbol so no matter how I rotated it the shadow would rotate 90, 180, -90 degrees. But, somehown the symbol corrupted and scatted in pieces all over the file. The PDF I made was OK. The strange thing is the two older versions were broken as well but their corresponding PDFs look fine. Any idea what happened? Could it be a font issue?
