text appearing outside of box and moving objects with it

Hello.

I've been experiencing an issue in the latest release of Adobe Illustrator (29.8.1). After creating artwork in the centre of the canvas and inlcuding text boxes I've encountered an error where the text moves outside of the box diagonally and moves the other objects with it. If I click on the text the text box is selected, but in its original position. It's only after resizing the text box that the text itself reverts back to appearing in the box. This has been an issue before, in earlier version, but this is now moving non-text objects away from their original position. I've had to correct two artworks that have had this error already. The only trigger I can think of is when the artwork is saved under a new filename after being created - for a duplicate file as an example. Please see the screenshots below for further context.

Hi Anubhav. Unfortunately, I can't do a screen recording of the workflow and how the problem occurs. I've tried to recreate it, but to no avail - as of yet, at least.

It would be helpful if you could share more details - such as whether it happens with specific files or files stored in specific folders and include a short screen recording if possible. Same problem here, since 3 weeks. Dont know why, but some files bug after reopening, It's scary (and take a lot of time to redoing it). The text zone stay in the artboard but all the visual split around but there still linked, so It's not possible to copy/paste in a new document, I'm using the last version of Illustrator 29.8.1. Two weeks ago I've experience the same issue, and have to redone the file, I again yesterday but with a bigger document with many artboard. Help!!

This issue has just happened to me. Worked on an Illustrator project yesterday with many artboards and a variety of designs (sadly I cannot share a preview for work reasons) but just opened the project today and its a mess. Objects have been moved around and I have a variety of text boxes with the text positioned outside of it. 

Its as if sound one opened the project in the middle of the night and entirely ransacked the designs and layout looking for something they didn't find. I've used Illustrator for almost 30 years and have experienced a variety of bugs and issues but nothing like this where I'm having to rebuild the whole project!

Any clue to whats going on what be really appreciated.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. Could you please confirm if you are working on Windows or macOS? I tested this on Windows, but was not able to reproduce the behavior, so it would really help to see more details. If possible, could you share a short screen recording along with a sample affected file, so I can follow your workflow step by step and check this further? If your file is confidential, you can share it via DM using any public cloud service like Google Drive or Dropbox. This will help me confirm whether I’m testing the same scenario as you.

Hi Abhishek, am working on Mac Os Ventura 13.7.8. / Illustrator v29.8.1
Thanks for replying. This happened to me a few weeks ago with a few AI files I was working with, and I reset my preferences and thought it had gone away. But it's definitely back. After I uploaded the screenshot you saw on Satuday, I relaid out my file. Luckily I saved a PDF copy of it too when I'd finished. As when I opened the AI file back up again it did the same thing. Have attached another screenshot. Top is what the file looked like when I closed it on Saturday, Bottom is how it looked when I re-opened it on Sunday. Its a very simple 8 page layout - all on one layer, all in the same fonts. 
When it does happen with complicated files though - the only thing you can do is start again which is AAGGHHH! Look forward to hearing from you, thanks, Cathy

Hi Abhishe, I'm working on Sequoia 15.6.1 (Mac), with Illustrator 29.8.1. I can't film the problem because both times it happened, the problem appeared between closing the file and reopening it a few hours or even days later.

Here is another screenshot of the first file that had this problem. You can see that there is no consistency in the movement or splitting of the artboard versus the graphic elements and the duplication of text boxes (text visible on the outside but linked to an empty box in the artboard).

I am working locally with a backup in Dropbox if that helps in finding a solution.

Hi @Abhishek Rao. I work on an iMac. The OS version is Sequoia 15.4.1, and I'm currently still working on Ai version 29.8.1. I had another issue with a new file yesterday. However, there is now a 29.8.2 update, so I'll see how I get on with that.

Resizing the text boxes slightly seems to be working for me. Thanks for the suggestion—it's SO much better than starting over!

I'll still be afraid to save and close .ai files until there's a real fix, though.

I have my text boxes set to Area Type. If your text is set to Point Type then try changing it - I'm hoping that might help.

UPDATE: Today, the issue mutated to affect vector patterns with clipping masks...but not all of them. Some patterns shifted out of view but were still contained in the clipping masks, which didn't move. Others were fine. And all of the text shifted like before, but this time, up and to the left.

Resizing the enclosing boxes worked for text, but not for the patterns.

Just adding my voice here, It's happening to me too. Mac OS Sonoma 14.6, Adobe Illustrator 29.8.2.

All looks correct upon saving and closing. When the file is reopened all area type objects have moved. It only affects area type boxes, point type and all other objects not affected. A small adjustment to the size of the area type box causes the type to snap back into the box.

Thinking about this some more, and as the issue has continued to happen for me, I think it might be to do with resetting the document's 0x0y position using the document rulers. When I create multiple artboards in a document, I reset the rulers' 0x0y positions to my active artboard by double-clicking in the top left of the rulers strip around the edge of my artwork area. The reason I think this may be the triggering action is that the distance and direction of the displacement of objects varies from document to document. This checks out as I often create many copies of an artboard to experiment with layouts and variations, then delete the unused/rejected designs leaving only the artboard that's approved, wherein I reset the rulers to zero in that artboard.

This issue has just happened to me. Worked on an Illustrator project yesterday with many artboards and a variety of designs, attaching screen shots, also backup illustrator files both the files become a mess. Text have been moved around and I have a variety of text boxes with the text positioned outside of it. 

My two days work i've to work again? My client asking me about the work that how much I've done! I'm afraid what should I reply them.

Any idea what should i do now????
