Text auto formatting issue

Community Beginner ,

Hallo.  I am a relatively new Illustrator user.  I live in the UAE and have installed Illustrator while living here, so I assume that the problem that I experience may be linked to my location, or that I have installed a Middle Eastern version of Illustrator.

1) I want to enter text with a hyphen, but Illustrator keeps on auto-formatting it.  I want to enter the text 1-4, but the moment that I add the 4, the text gets reformatted to 4-1.

2). I don't know if it is related to the previous question, but cannot change the default paragraph direction to be from left to right.

Thank you for you help.

I am answering my own question.  I solved it as follows (I am using a Mac):

  1. Window menu -> Type -> Character
  2. I then disabled avey setting (found under th top right menu bars) that seemed to relate to international vs Arabic text preferences.
  3.   And it worked!

I hope this will help someone else.

Glad to see you've solved it.

The best way for you if you will never type Arabic, you or the IT person at your job - if applied - to uninstall all Adobe products from the Adobe CC desktop application. In the same application, on the top right corner access Preferences, and change the Language from the "General" menu on the left to "International English", then re-install all Adobe applications which you need.

This way, your work will not be hindered by the default Arabic-specific settings, or extra tools and options.

Note. I'm based in Dubai 🙂
