This might be difficult to explain, but at the moment, when pasting text within Illustrator (it can be from a different artboard within the doc, or from a different Illustrator doc, or Word, basically it doesn't seem to matter where the text comes from) or if just create a new text box and type within it, and try to resize the box, it seems to create more text boxes within the main box, and the text would 'snap' into the smaller box. If I stretch the box wider, the text will 'snap' back into the bigger box again, and I can then delete the randomly created text box as it is empty and not affected anymore. If I keep moving the edges of the text box around, every time the text within it is affected by moving or not having enough space it will just pop a new box. It will carry on indefinitely as long as I'm shifting the size around.
This only happens when creating text boxes that you can resize without affecting the size of the text inside it. Typing without a text box seems to be fine.
Does anyone know what on earth is going on?

It's been posted there, that's how I got the link to this forum post.

Just been on to Tech Support again and I've told them that this is totally unacceptable and linked in all the forum/user.voice posts and they're escalating it as a priority. The advisor said they will be contacting me directly with an update after I insisted they give me confirmation that they were actually taking this issue seriously, which he did.
I also stated that we're paying for a sub-standard piece of software at present and they suggested seeking compensation - which I will do.

Wow, that is great news. Please keep us updated.
How are you going about seeking compensation?

We have what at first glance what appears to be (temporary?) fix at my location, as we did not experience any of these issues before installing and upgrading Fontbase to the paid/pro version.
Our IT upgraded our Fontbase to the latest (2.7.0) and delete a fontbase-related folder here:
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CEP\extensions
I have confirmed on my workstation the issue is at least temporarily resolved.

I noticed that, together with this (very annoying) issue, another weird thing started to happen... now, when I save the files, while saving, the illustrator screen get black for few seconds and the artwork disappear before going back to normal...

I'm in deadline and because of this bug (it is impossible to work with...) I had to go back working with cs5.
I forgot how stable and fast it was!
I'm thinking seriously to drop CC and start working again with cs5 (that I own)... there is absolutely nothing in CC that I need and can't replicate with cs5, sometime it is just a matter of choosing a different technique... it is not even slower than the one I use on CC...
Adobe is a genius company for convincing all of us to give up working programs to pay them monthly for a bunch of softwares that are increasingly buggy... swallowing all the computer (and network) resources for no or little advantage...
I'm amazed...

I'll be doing the same if the issue detailed in this thread isn't resolved in the very near future.

Not gonna lie I'm a huge fan of the CC libraries, shared resources, Adobe capture, integration & font management features with CC. I hear ya on going back to CS5 and what not but to be honest I use a lot of the new features so not really an option for me. Also, I don't have a copy of CS5. Also working within a team that all uses new software presents problems in just switching back to legacy software. Prefer this bug get fixed pronto.

I've removed Fontbase completely and it's definitely working better, the bug doesn't occur with multiple artboards open. Although I just tried it with the offset dialogue box and it still creates multiple versions of the object when changing the size incrementally in the box. At least it's some progress. I'm going to get onto Adobe today, along with all the main bug and this, the situation is totally ridiculous.

One of our first troubleshooting steps based on something our IT guy found/heard somewhere was to uninstall fontbase, but that did not fix the issue for us at the time. I suspect it has something to do with the fontbase associated files which were located in the Adobe CEP extensions folder before we deleted it. I don't believe that folder was deleted when we uninstalled fontbase.
The folder has since been re-created by fontbase on my system, the folder is called "com.fontbase.activator" on my windows 10 workstation. Contained therein are the following items (bottom two are files, the others are folders):
CSXS
html
js
jsx
META-INF
mimetype
package.json
The folders contain various javascript, xml and html files.
It was also noted that we did not experience any issues until we upgraded fontbase to the pro version, for what it might be worth to anyone.
to mathewm, I an currently unable to reproduce any issues listed, including with object > path > offset path.

Thanks for the FontBase info.
As I was trying to diagnose what was causing this problem I contacted the FontBase developer and he (after taking 2 weeks to respond to me) said there was an issue with FontBase and this was likely causing this problem with Illustrator.
He said a fix would be in the next update but failed to say when that would be. However, I wasn't convinced it was FontBase.
I had originally formatted my machine and reinstalled everything fresh - This included the removal of FontBase entirely and I didn't reinstall it initially. The problem was still present.
Yesterday I noticed an update pending on the FontBase app and proceeded to update. Since then, the Illustrator problem has completely vanished.
So for me it seems this has resolved my problem (I hope completely, I'll be monitoring). I don't know if Illustrator have pushed out an update in the background or if it was the FontBase update. Either way, I am very happy to say I am no longer plagued by this.
So check out the FontBase update and see how you fair if you're still affected by this problem.

Yeah seems to have cleared up the issue for me too. Although I'm certain it's not just Fontbase causing the issues, before the update, I removed it completely and started using rightfont5 as an alternative and the issue still occurred. I'm certain it's how Illustrator responds to font requests and the new live AdobeFonts integration. Anyway, at least I can work with some consistency going forward - now all I want is the direct selection bounding box returned and the new toolbar sorted out!

This has solved the issue for me as well. So I am very happy and owe you a huge thank you! Will see how it goes moving forward, and hopefully the issue never returns.

I have the same bug and it's driving me crazy. I have work to do - I don't have time for this nonsense, Adobe.

I know this is an old post but I am wondering if the issue was fixed for anyone?
I have been checking in with this post and - this post 36159583-text-boxes-resizing-objects-in-illustrator-behav but I am not seeing anything new. I am finding it extremly frustrating to work in illustrator when trying to resize anything.
