Text Outlines, Stroke into outlines separate

Question

Hello all,

I recently posted about text and strokes.

I am re-creating someones logo for a 3D plugin for After Effects. The plugin using AI files and extrudes the paths. The logo has gradient text with a black stroke. I need to make a separate stroke in paths from the text, so I can manipulate the bevel and extrud in AE. I have made the text and created outlines. each letter is now separate. I added a stroke and I'm trying to use expand. When I do this, the stroke inheriates the fill color. I just don't understand how to go about doing this. I have seen a tut on doing this with a shape and it doesn't happen. I'm really getting frustrated.

Todd,

As I (mis)understand it, you may be happier if you give the live Type a stroke, then Expand (both Fill and Stroke), and then you can see and manage the Group of separate paths in the expanded layers panel.
