Question

The most intuitive way of using Paintbrush in AI?

Hello,

I've trawled the internet looking for answers or tutorials for this but I get absolutely nothing.

When I am using Paintbrush to paint and draw as I would in "the real world", I am constantly slowed down by having to select the colour and then switch it to the stroke colour. Am I missing out on something? Should I not be using Illustrator for my design work? I love the program itself but hate all the workflow.

I just need to understand the optimum methods to create artworks using Illustrator and my Wacom tablet, for an artist mind, not an algebraic mind.

I WANT TO ILLUSTRATE NOT CREATE MATHEMATICAL EQUATIONS (Yes, I understand it's vector based etc, but I just care for the final product, whilst retaining all the advantages of Vector scalability)

Forgive my frustration.

Can you show examples of what you want to achieve?

OK, firstly, as You said, it's vector based software, which is just bad for work You are trying achive to. I rather say, You should use proper software for drawings (My personal favorite is free of charge Krita). But, yes, You can also draw in Illustratow, but there will be some issues like performance (when there is many objects Illustrator can be slow AF), and workflow.

I try to Illustrate (he he), my workflow using Pen Tablet.

Colors - strokes, You can change prority of selecting color to stroke first, than when You select color, it's apply automatic to stroke. There is also many of brushes, which You can use, or just make Your own. Color filling - in this particular thing, I preffer make large objects bellow the line art.

Coloring could be done by the mesh, solids, or just strokes - it's depending on work, what I'm working on. It could be also done by patterns.

Trying just to sketch lines keep in mind, that illustrator make it on it's own rules, and it's not property, as You want it.

I attach one piece of my small own project (just a puzzle to move brains in work ), and it's done using pen tablet in illustrator, and postproduction in PS. I know it's not complex, but under hand I don't have anything more than this simply jigsaws.

If You still have some questions, feel free to ask.
