Question

Tools not working in Illustrator CC

I've just noticed that in Illustrator 25.2.3 installed on my MacBook Pro running OS 11.3.1 that none of the tools are working property.

If I create a new document everything appears normal until I try and draw, move, select a tool etc. I get a pencil with a no-entry sign and a 'beep' every time I click in the document.

If I quit the app, it may work for a couple of clicks but then the dreaded pencil of doom reappears.

As I'm paying a hefty subscription for this suite, I expect it to work. Does anyone know what's happening? Thanks.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about your experience. I agree with @Eugenio.NYC. Resetting preferences should help here.

Additionally, you may try the suggestions given on this community post(https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator/resolve-slow-performance-and-unexpected-behaviors-in-illustrator/td-p/11561981) & let us know if they help.

It's happening to me right now all of the sudden. REstarted. Reset preferences. Still doing it. It's a pencil with the slashed circle icon.

Exactly what are you trying to do?

How did you create the document?

WHich tool are you using?

Hi, sorry about that

I don’t have a solution, but maybe if you try to reset the preferences will work, here the instructions: https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/setting-preferences.html#setting_illustrator_preferences

Let me know if that works

Hi Eugenio. Annoyingly it didn't work. I still only get the crossed out pencil icon an all tool selections and a beep on clicking. Have reset preferences again and is now only giving me the eraser tool, no matter which tool is selected. It means I can't currently use Illustrator at all, which may mean Adobe is in breach of contract for supplying faulty goods.

Please show screenshots that include the layers panel.

Does that happen in all files or just some? Also in a newly created file?
