I'm having a problem with the touch type tool wherein it keeps moving all of the characters in a word, instead of leaving all characters, perceding the selected character, alone. I do not know how to lock those first characters in place, or what setting I need to fix to get the little 'x' to appear at the bottom left of the first character in the word/ phrase. I've attatched pictures to illustrate what I'm talking about. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
WE HAVE AN ANSWER!!! The touch type tool operates based on the justification set on the word/ phrase! The problem phrase in the example was set to center justification, hence the issue! If the phrase was justified to the right, then the last character in the phrase would've stayed still and everything prior would move! If you're writing left to right, be sure the justification is set to the left so the tool works properly! (side note, if you have the text fit within a text box, or with the end l

So it depends on the font you use?
Which language is applied to that text? You are not typing right to left?

Thank you for replying! The font doesn't seem to effect it. The font in the example phrase is carried over from the original file that is giving me trouble, I just didn't see the point in changing it for the sake of the example. Whatever the problem is, it carries over to new files even when copy/paste-ing the word/phrase. I've only been working in english so I'm not sure if a different language would result in something different. I am typing left to right in this case.

So you have one corrupt file and the problem gets copied from it to different files?
In that case I would just not touch that file again. Files can go corrupt and maybe if you send that file to the Illustrator engineers they can analyze it.

I'll send the file to them to see if they can glean anything from it. Unfortunately, the corrupt file is actually an assignment, so even if I download it again it'll do the same thing. I've spoken with other people who experience the same problem, even from files other than this one, and I'm worried that if I end up getting a similar file from a client, that I won't be able to walk them through how to provide me with a file that will work properly (as I don't know what's actually causing the problem). Thank you for your response!

Side note, do you know how I might go about sending this file to the Illustrator engineers?

I'll just tag one of them and jhopefully they'll chime in here soon.
@Anshul_Saini could you please look at this potentially corrupt file? Thank you.

Alright I've tried posting the original problem file in this reply and it keeps telling me that "The attachment's problem file.ai content type (application/postscript) does not match its file extension and has been removed."
Not sure why that is, as it opens fine in Illustrator. So if an engineer wants to look at the file, I think I'll have to email it to them.

Yes. This forum does not allow uploading an AI file.
You could upload it to your Creative Cloud and then share it (make sure it's public and downloadable). There is also an e-mail address that I can't find at the moment
OK, found it: sharewithai@adobe.com. I hope it's still the current one.
