Trace around image and crop

Ok, might be simple and I'm overlooking something (I am a newbie to Illustrator after all), but, I am wanting to trace around an item in a photo and crop that image out, in this example a car. How is this done?

That would best be done in Photoshop.

Hi Ken,

As Monika said, that would be best done in Photoshop. In Illustrator when you trace image it becomes vector and will not draw exact paths which you want and quality of the image will also not be the same. Still, if you want to try that in Illustrator, here is how it can be done.

First, trace the image: How to edit artwork in Illustrator using Image Trace,  I would personally suggest manual tracing(Illustrator: How to manually trace images | lynda.com tutorial - YouTube )

Then crop using these tools: Cut, divide, and trim objects in Illustrator

Regards,

Srishti
