Trace only a subsection of an image

I would like to draw around an area in an image and have image trace run over just that section of the image. Is this possible?

I've read How to edit artwork in Illustrator using Image Trace  and didn't see anything about tracing a subsection of an image.

You cannot trace parts of an image.

I always recommend going into Photoshop and creating a layer with just that piece.  Erase the rest, turn it into a PNG with a clear background.  Then bring that piece into Illustrator and then do Image Trace.
