Question

Translating File build in Illustrator to Spanish (or Different Languages)

I have a number of labels created for client in illustrator and now he wants them translated to Spanish.

I thought the easiest way would be to take My Illustrator PDF open in Acrobate and select Translate. Which then converts to Adobe Express (it doesn't like text effects and attributes, and have to keep the layers below 200). After trial and error and removing the effects and attributes I was abel to get the Adobe Express conversation o be correct. Then translate that file. But the conversion also changes all the text alignment and breaks a text block into single lines of text that flow too far.

My question is: The this still the best solution knowing that I will have edit the translated file in Illustrator to copy and paste single lines of text back into the text boxes so it can be rescaled and reflow correctly and also reply the text effects and attributes.

This process has worked very smoothly for a simple text document but seems to be too much for a label design. I've attached some screen shots of before and after.

Any advice or help to make this a more "turn-key solution" would be appreciated.

Hello network! 👋 Are Adobe Illustrator (.ai) and other vector files slowing down your localization or DTP workflow?

I’ve been working on a dedicated processing tool built specifically for professional translators and DTP specialists to solve this exact problem.

✨ Key Features: • Broad Format Support: Seamlessly handles .ai, .ait, .svg, .svgz, .eps, .epsf, .ps, .pdf, and .wmf files.

• Flexible Workflow: Use it standalone online, or call it directly natively within Trados Studio 2022/2024.

• Precision Formatting: Perfect preservation of paragraph and character styles, plus automatic font mapping and typeface adaptation specifically designed for CJK (Chinese, Japanese, Korean) and other complex script languages!

The tool will be launching very soon. If you're interested in exploring how it can streamline your processes, please take a quick minute to complete our pre-screening survey. Participants will receive an invitation for an early access trial account!

To update:

Hi everyone,

For those looking for a professional way to translate .ai files, my team has developed an automated tool that extracts Illustrator text directly into XLIFF.

This allows you to open the file natively in Trados Studio and perform a back-insertion once translated. The system also includes DTP features like composite-font-like "font-mapping" —a major time-saver for Western-CJK projects.

How to try it: Simply install the Tokr Hub Desktop application directly from the Microsoft Store using this link:

https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9nsl1k15jc39

The Hub will automatically take care of installing the Trados plugin and managing the licensing for you.

You can learn more and see the technical details here: http://www.tokr.asia/docs/

Best,
Wei
