Transparent Brush

I created a brush which is a gradient with transparency, since the brush had transparencies; I had to flatten the brush making it completely vector after flattening.  I then could create the brush along with the colorization method set to tint, but when I set the color to anything but black, obviously; the brush remains black ?

    Correct answer Ton Frederiks

Don't use a gradient but make a blend between a rectangle with 0% and 100% opacity

Make it an Artbrush and select Tints for Colorization method.

Why doesn't a gradient work on tints ?

Because a gradient cannot be used in a brush.

Why do you need to flatten transparency in order to "make it vector"?

As for the question: upload a demo file.

Here is the sample file.  Take this shape and try to make it into a art Brush, you'll be denied.

THe problem is not that it's transparent, but that it's a gradient.

You need to expand the gradient in order to make it a brush. transparency is allowed in brushes.

You need to expand it. Then use Pathfinder > Crop on it

Trouble is that this method  applies the opcaity as a tint to the resulting color.

Maybe a script can fix this, but I have only found scripts that do the opposite.

Change Spot Colour Opacity Value to Tint Value

Don't have time to further dig into this.
