Transparent line art by z order

I'm trying to create a line art image. All shapes in the drawing to be transparent with a solid stroke.

I would like foreground objects to mask any paths behind them that overlap. So in effect the foreground object clips all detail beneath it, but without any fill.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?
