Transparent Stroke

I have read multiple forums, and videos but no one seems to have an answer for me. I have a simple question. I have chosen a font that I love, however the size that I want makes the text a bit more bold than I was hoping. I already checked, and there are no other font families. Currently I have a white stroke around it, but I was wondering if there is any way to make it transparent(instead of white) so it's versatile over any background. Thank you.

If your Appearance panel looks the same as in my screendumps it should work.

But forget it and use Monikas method:

Select your text with the Selection Tool (V) and use Effect > Path > Offset Path with a negative value.

Apply Effect > Path > Offset path to the text object

    Of course, much easier :-)

You could use a Kockout Group.

In the Appearance Panel add a stroke.

Here a 6 pt yellow stroke was added above the filled characters.

Change the opacity of the stroke to 0%.

Click the last item at the bottom of the Appearance panel: Opacity and check the Knockout Group checkbox.

The stroke should become transparent and make the characters thinner.

I was thinking that as well, but I've never been able to get that to look clean doing that. The font edges are always kind of crunchy. It kind of looks that way on yours as well. hmmm...

a transparent stroke will remove the weight. which will give you 0 stroke.

Thank you. So how could I make the text thinner? I tried offsetting a path, but that didn't seem to work.

Not a lot you can do other than with the stroke outline subtracting from the text. There could be a version of the font out there though that is already what you are looking for. If you do a broader search for it, you may find that it's there on a different font site than you found this one on.
