Trimed lines disappearing

I am working on a seamless pattern.  I have got to the stage of the clipping mask which I believe I have correctly applied.  However when I go to trim the "hidden" items around the edges of the clipping mask, so I don't end up with a white border around my swatch, a number of lines disappear when I use the trim function.

Can anyone help explain why this is happening and how I can go about successfully trimming the "hidden" elements to allow me to create my seamless pattern?

First image shows part of my image post clipping mask, pre trim.  Second image shows same part of my image post clipping mask and post trim.

Thanks in advance

The pathfinder functions will not work on strokes. You need to expand strokes.

If you want to export as JPEG, you can make an artboard at the size you need and then "Use artboards" when epxorting.

Not sure how you are trimming,

but do you need to trim it to make a seamless pattern?

After you have created the pattern , maybe use the Pattern Tile Tool

and drag the box around the tile itself, to remove any  gaps.

    Or

before you create the pattern draw a rectangle with no stroke or fill exactly around,it

use Object >Arrange,  to send to back .

then select that and the would be pattern and

    Object > Pattern >Make

    Thanks for your response.

I can make the seamless pattern with the pattern maker without issues.  However I need to send a jpeg of the seamless pattern to the printer, who will then repeat it, so it needs to be a smallish rectangle of pattern that they can then repeat.

I want to create a swatch of the rectangle of pattern so I can double check that it is entirely seamless.  However I have applied the clipping mask to create the rectangular "swatch" and am trying to trim the artwork that extends beyond the rectangle using the pathfinder tool to eliminate the white border that is being created when I move the art to the swatches.

You don't need a clipping mask.

All you need is that object you want to use as a mask.

Apply stroke and fill "None" to it.

Then send it to the background.

Then drag the artwork together with that rectangle into the swatches panel.

    Thanks for your response.

My artwork extends outside the rectangle though so that doesn't work?

I need to create a jpeg of the seamless pattern to send for printing.
